Winnie Mark Bashagi

Winnie Mark Bashagi has worked in the agriculture sector on issues of food security and rural development for over 40 years. She is currently the Executive Director of the Rice council of Tanzania (RCT), which is the representative of private sector stakeholders in the rice value chain in Tanzania.  In this role she is in charge of improving RCT’s Governance, Management & Sustainability; advocating for conducive policy, regulatory, business and investment environments to support the growth of the rice industry in Tanzania and the East African Community; Enabling and supporting the rice industry to increase rice output; Coordinating Rice Industry’s information, data management & dissemination and forging alliances with Government, development partners Boards, Cereals Associations, etc., inside and outside Tanzania.

For appropriate joint activities. She previously worked with FEWSNET- USAID as Country Representative Aga Khan Foundation as Rice and Sesame Value Chain Coordinator, also with DFID and SNV. Winnie has also worked as consultant on agriculture development, sustainable land and water management, gender, good governance, project formulation and evaluation for many organizations. She holds Master of Sciences in Agricultural and Rural Development from University College of Dublin, Ireland and Bachelor of Science in General agriculture from University of Dar es salaam.
