Leoncia Nyeme Salakana
Leoncia Nyeme Salakana currently serves as the Senior Policy Analyst in the Rice Council of Tanzania a private sector organization advocating for policies that promote rice business within and beyond Tanzania borders and creating awareness on these policies to all rice value chain actors (RVC). She has previously worked with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Programme officer for more than five years where she was involved in development of formal and informal skills development policies and programmes; Review of employment and youth development policies and supervise field interventions in Dar es Salaam, Lindi and Mtwara regions.
She successfully initiated three national training programmes: The apprenticeship training in hospitality industry through partnership between ILO, Tourism Confederation of Tanzania (TCT), the Hotels Association of Tanzania (HAT) the National College of Tourism; the informal skills upgrading programme through partnership between ILO and Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) through Recognition of Prior Learning (PRL) approach and introduction of bridging courses for upgrading from vocational education training (VET) to technical education training (TET) through collaboration between ILO, VETA and National Accreditation Council of Technical Education (NACTE).
She worked as the Education Specialist in Plan International Tanzania where she was involved in review of education policies, designing and implementation of early childhood, primary, non-formal, secondary education programmes. She also worked with World Vision Tanzania as a Public Relations Coordinator for about two years prior to that she served as a classroom teacher for twenty two years at primary, secondary and teachers’ training college. She is a founder member of Tanzania Women Leaders in Agriculture and Environment (TAWLAE) and has carried out various consultancies services. She graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam Tanzania and the University Of Victoria, BC, Canada.
